In the cold of these winter months, my heart and my stomach calls for comfort food.

The Oxford Dictionary defines comfort food as food that provides consolation or a feeling of well-being, typically any with a high sugar or other carbohydrate content and associated with childhood or home cooking.

Similarly, Wikipedia tells us that comfort food is food that provides a nostalgic or sentimental value to someone and may be characterized by its high caloric nature associated with childhood or home cooking.
Whether I’m making homemade blueberry muffins, lasagna or chicken noodle soup, when food is prepared with love, it always tastes better. My satisfaction from cooking, in large part, comes from knowing that others appreciate my efforts and the tasty end results. Cooking for one just isn’t the same for me, so I often make a full recipe and share with those around me.
At this very moment, I am inspired to whip up some bacon and cheddar muffins. They are savoury and oh, so good!

You’ve seen my soup, stew, muffins and sandwich. Now I would love to hear from you! What food do you love that reminds you of the comforts of home? Any favourites that your Mom, grandmother or other loved ones made that you crave? Please leave me a note in the comments.
