Who Wants a Sandwich?

What is your favourite kind of sandwich? I’ll give you a minute to think…

Peanut butter and jam? Egg salad? Ham and cheese? If so, then I think you’re in luck!!

Did you know that there is an opportunity for caring community members to help provide food for those with food insecurities? Have you heard of the Sandwich Sisters?

Since early 2024, the local chapter of the Sandwich Sisters has been meeting twice a month in our church’s commercial, health unit-inspected kitchen. Volunteers in varying numbers (allowing for personal appointments, illness and vacation time) work cooperatively and cohesively and in about an hour’s time can master the creation of 18 loaves of sandwiches. These sandwiches are donated to our local One City meal program. The assembly line style of production is both efficient and successful at producing a significant contribution to those in need while offering the rewards of serving others, to those of us in the kitchen.

1 Peter 4:10 states, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (NIV)

Whether your specialty is buttering bread, spreading the fillings, cutting the finished product or bagging up the sandwiches, there is always room for another set of hands. Join in the fun of this soul-enriching event. It’s a valuable way to give back to society and turn acquaintances into friends while you’re at it.
